Philosophy of Education

When I first started in CAPS I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and helping my students grow as the most important part for me. While I did not know what that meant exactly I knew it was important to me. During my time at CAPS, I have learned that social-emotional learning is very important to me. Social-Emotional Learning is teaching the standards, but teaching it in a way that causes students to use life skills while they do it. Some of these skills include attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, create and maintain positive relationships. I also took a philosophy of education self-inventory quiz (shown below) that showed me my philosophy is almost equal between romanticism and progressivism. Romanticism in education is believing that all students have the potential to grow and learn. Progressivism in education is believing students learn by doing this means students learn best by doing it on their own and seeing how it works instead of hearing how  This means that I believe all students have the potential to grow, and students learn through their own experiences.
